There is a celebration that is unique to Sikhs all over the world – Hola Mohalla. It is an important festival held in Anandpur Sahib in Punjab and it happens right after Holi. “Hola” means military charge and “mohalla” means an organized parade. Therefore, the words Hola and Mohalla put together mean 'the charge of an army'

Whereas, Holi is a playful festival of colors, Hola Mahalla is an impressive traditional display for the Sikhs to demonstrate their martial skills and valor. This 3-day festival is celebrated to reaffirm fraternity and brotherhood and reminding Sikhs of “valour and defence preparedness”, concepts very dear to the Tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh ji.
The martial arts display includes impressive displays of weaponry, archery and wrestling, along with music, poetry contests and prayers, singing holy hymns and chanting kirtans.
One of the main attractions at the festival is the Nihangs — a prestigious armed sect who wears a striking blend of blue and orange, with thick twisted mustaches and large turbans. They are known for their and daring feats, such as Gatka (mock encounters with real weapons), tent pegging, bareback horse-riding, standing erect on two speeding horses, and various other feats of bravery.

The fair also hosts community service as langars (voluntary community kitchen) by the locals that serve traditional cuisine to visitors of this festival irrespective of their religion or caste.
2021 Festival Dates: Monday, 29th March to Wednesday, 31st March.
