There’s something special about Indian weddings, usually it a colorful extravaganza filled with excessive décor, mouth-watering food, loud music and dance performances by lots of relatives! In India, everyone looks for ways to make their wedding the talk of the town. However, with COVID-19 pandemic it is a good idea to switch to a simple eco-friendly wedding that will help the environment
Here are some ways how you can reduce waste and plan an eco-friendly wedding of your dreams:
1. Wedding Invitations
One eco-friendly alternative to traditional invites is - seed paper invites. It is made from biodegradable paper which is inserted with seeds, these invites can be planted in soil later. You can even opt for an e-invite, these digital invites are no more looked as informal invitations.
2. Wedding Favours
There are always wedding favors to guests that needs to be planned, and the options are plenty. But to make an environment-conscious effort, you can consider eco-friendly favor options like seeds, saplings, bamboo toothbrushes, jute bags, etc.
3. Deal with food wastage wisely
Let's face it! A lot of food gets wasted at weddings. The food at a wedding is usually in a buffet style, this leads to people taking more food in their plates then they can eat and ultimately leads to a lot of food wastage. To avoid this, food can be served in Dabbas or can be served on plates instead.
4. Go Green With The Baraat!
Gone are the days, when grooms use to enter only on beautifully adorned horse, ditch the traditional way and keep it sweet and simple and choose to enter driving in an electric car or a bicycle instead.
5. Noise pollution
DJ bands and their setups use up a lot of electricity and precious fuel (diesel-run generators!) because it has to be well-lit and the music should not stop. Instead, opt for live-music with a band or orchestra and avoid excessive noise pollution.
We hope these points help inspire many couples to make small changes that can make a major impact.
